According to J. L. Austin and John Searle, giving thanks is a performative act, a social action. From this perspective, Marc Caellas and Esteban Feune de Colombi, friends and cheerful conversationalists, authors of Notas de suicidio and Feliz año (365 días / 365 diaristas) respectively, compose in this book a constellation of ideas on the sincere act of giving thanks and the multiple meanings that this ancient ritual has today.

To do so, they comment on public expressions and speeches of gratitude, such as the moving letter written by Albert Camus, after winning the Nobel Prize, to his childhood teacher; or the words of Shirley MacLaine in one of the best Oscar speeches; or the unexpected answer given by the owner of a well-known restaurant in Segovia to the question “what do you thank your father for”.
